Keeping Cool This Summer

July 3, 2015 by Katie Dahl

Happy 4th of July weekend to all our neighbors in Pittsford NY!  In case you missed it, last week we shared some of the great stuff happening around town to celebrate our Nation’s Independence.  School is out and summer is here; with that comes some beautiful days your family can spend outside!  But, what do you do when the temperatures skyrocket & and everyone is melting!?  We’ve got some great ways for your family to cool off this summer:

Splash Park

Pittsford doesn’t have it’s own Splash Park yet (wouldn’t that be awesome!?), but there are some great ones nearby!  The City of Rochester has several that are a quick drive from us- there is a great map which shows all the locations!  Our favorite area splash pad is in Webster.  Visit Spray Park Ridgecrest, open daily from 8:30 am until 8 pm.  This is a great park, which has a number of really fun features (including a bucket dump!).  There are restroom facilities and picnic tables which are open to the public; it’s a great spot to spend a hot afternoon!

Sprinkler Games

Can’t make it to the splash park?  That’s okay, bust out your sprinkler and have a blast at home!  Your kids will have a blast running through the sprinkler, and it will be even more fun if you join them (go ahead, be a kid again!).  Looking to jazz up your sprinkler time?  The National Wildlife Federation has a list of super-fun games you can play while you’re cooling off!  Simon Says in the sprinkler sounds like a whole lot of fun!

Visit the Beach

We live in a community with a lot of great waterfront areas close by.  One of our favorite choices is Charlotte Beach, right on Lake Ontario.  They’ve got a fantastic playground, carousel, Abbotts AND a huge beach area with sand to play in and water to wade in!  What’s not to love!?  Swimming is allowed daily at the beach from 11 am until 7 pm, but if you’re planning on getting in the water, call ahead to check conditions: (585) 753-5887.

Pool Safety

You can’t beat a home swimming pool for a convenient way to keep everyone cool!  If you’ve got your own pool, you’ll want to check out poolsafety.gov for some great safety tips for the whole family.  Your kids will love playing (and learning) about swimming pool safety with Splish & Splash!

Whatever your summer plans, we hope you have a great time & stay cool!  The Town of Pittsford is a great place to raise a family; Pittsford’s Realtor Christina Feck would love to talk with you about buying your very own property here!
