It seems like everyone has caught the running bug; have you? Races are becoming a frequent happening in our area, and more & more people are starting to get involved!
My husband’s family are all runners. His dad, his mom, both his sisters… everyone! I had never felt much desire to run; truthfully, I cheated every year running the mile in High School (only running 3 laps of the track instead of 4). It just wasn’t my thing. But once we got married, I started feeling the pressure to run Forrest run!
This past summer I finally decided to take the plunge. I asked my best friend to run my first 5K with me; giving us a couple months for training. The practice? Hard. Painful. Occasionally discouraging. I didn’t love the practice. But the actual race? AWESOME! It was such an exciting day. It felt good to get dressed in my running outfit, start the race with my friend, make new friends when my BFF left me in the dust, and having my husband & countless others cheering for me at the finish line. The training was totally worth it.
This weekend YOU have an opportunity to experience the excitement of race day! Come to the Southeast YMCA for the 30th anniversary of their Turkey Classic. The day begins with a one-mile fun run at 8:10 am, which is perfect for families or children. If you haven’t started training yet, this is the race for you! For more serious runners, there is a five-mile USATF certified and timed race starting at 9 am. And for the really hardcore runners, you have the option to do both!
For more information on the race course, and for registration information visit their website: YMCA Turkey Classic. You can preregister, or register the morning of the race!!
