Mendon Ponds Park is a local favorite during all seasons. We are so lucky to have such an amazing place so close to home! According to monroecounty.gov, “Mendon Ponds Park is the largest Monroe County Park with 2,500 acres of woodlands, ponds, wetlands and glacially created landforms.” This leaves tons of room for activities of all kinds during all seasons. Though the winter months in our area tend to have undesirable temperatures, the park is always full of people spending time in the great outdoors! Here are a few activities that you can consider taking part in this winter:
There are many beautiful hiking trails all throughout the park. They all have varying levels of difficulty and all have beautiful scenery to take in. Here is a map of trails you can take!
In winter, many people enjoy snowshoeing in lieu of hiking. Snowshoes will make it easier to trek through snowy trails. No worries if you don’t have snowshoes. There are plenty of places around town where you can take them out for the day! Along with Eastern Mountain Sports and REI, here is a list of other locations – you can even rent them right in the park! Feeding The Birds
Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is perhaps one of the most popular winter activities in Mendon Ponds Park. People come from all over the Rochester area to experience what has been labeled a “cross-country skiing paradise”. The park holds over twenty miles of marked cross-country skiing trails.
The park is also the perfect place for a fun-filled day of sledding with friends or family. There are a few designated sledding locations to choose from. Bundle up and sled the day away & be sure to stop for hot chocolate at Pittsford Dairy on the way home!
