For many students, going back to school for the second semester can be challenging. After a nice break from the madness, being at home and not worrying about classes, it can be difficult to get right back into the swing of things to finish off the year. Here are some tips for starting off the spring semester on the right foot!
Since most students have their class schedules before they start school, it will be smart to develop a schedule somewhere, whether it’s on a physical calendar or in your phone. This is especially helpful if you are involved in clubs, have a job, an internship, etc. Having an idea of how your days are going to go will make transitioning much easier.
2. Set Goals
Based on your last semester, and maybe semesters before, set some goals for this next semester. What are some things you would like to improve on? What did you learn from last semester that would be useful to know before this semester? Maybe this includes giving yourself more time to get ready before class, waking up earlier to start your day, improving your study habits etc.
3. Get Organized
Making sure you have the necessary books and supplied before classes start is important for many reasons, but primarily so that you feel organized as you jump into new classes with new professors. It might take some time to understand what works best for your classes, but you always want to be prepared. Get different folders or notebooks for each class, make sure to keep your laptop charged, and always carry a pen, pencil, and/or highlighter. Some professors prefer certain things over others, and you want to be ready! You might also want to invest in a planner of some-sort, to ensure that you stay organized throughout the semester. It’s always a good idea to keep all of your priorities in one place!
If it’s your first year in college, you’ve had a semester to get used to the campus and explore. Use this semester to crack down on your resources and understand just how much is offered on your campus. You might be surprised on what is hiding in your academic buildings, like tutoring centers!
Here’s to an awesome spring semester, and kicking off 2018 with a “bang!”
