Tips & Tricks
Do you want to make the most of your farmer’s market visits this year? We’ve got some tips & tricks for you:
- BYOB– Bring your own bags! Having a sturdy bag at the market is always a plus! Most vendors will have plastic shopping bags, but bringing a reusable shopping bag, tote bag or one of these super-cute shopping baskets will make your load easier to carry (not to mention going green!).
2. Get Advice– Unlike shopping at a regular grocery store, shopping at a farmer’s market actually gives you the opportunity to talk to the people who GREW your food!! They are the experts! Ask them how they prepare a certain fruit or veggie. Find out from them what to expect in the coming weeks! They would love to talk to you!
3. Bring Small Change– One of the perks of shopping at a farm market is that usually costs are pretty low. Do yourself (and the vendors) a favor, leave the big bills at home! Bring singles, and some change; try not to ask a vendor to break a $20 or higher, unless you’re spending a lot at their stand.
4. Go With a Plan/Be Flexible– Farmer’s markets can be a little overwhelming; there is so much variety! Think about your week’s meal plans ahead of time, and bring a shopping list… but, leave room for some flexibility! Thinking you want zucchini this week, but everyone is raving about the corn on the cob!? Go for it!!!
